CAMBA Needs ESOL Teaching Volunteers

Help multi-ethnic adult immigrant learn to speak and read English and learn to navigate various systems/institutions of community life. We have students from all walks of life, of all ages and nationalities, and at a wide range of educational/ability levels. Schedule and tutoring location are flexible.

The ability to effectively teach listening, speaking, reading, writing, and civics skills is a must. Candidates with experience in computer-assisted instruction, who are self-starters and highly organized, are preferred. Teaching and working with our target population require individuals who are patient, who have the ability to coach students through various cultural and communications hurdles, and who have the ability to perceive and explain differences between cultures without making value judgments.

Volunteers will be required to be trained by the program supervisor (unless they already have relevant training/experience). They may be scheduled to work either in the morning (9 am to 12:30 pm) or in the afternoon (1:00 to 4:00 pm). They must commit to work with a particular group of students for at least 6 months (or two cycles.)

Send resumes and cover letters to Gina Vellani at GinaV@camba.org.
